Business

The Business Pathway is a program that offers students the opportunity to earn up to 15 college credits through Manchester Community College which may be transferred to many 4-year colleges and universities. This core group of business courses is integral to most college business programs and will prepare you for careers in business, management, insurance, finance and marketing.

Instructor

Craig Robinson

Craig has been teaching at SHS since 1999. He currently teaches Marketing, Business Principles, Business Law and Economics. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Michigan State University, and his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Rivier University. A current resident of Danville, Craig enjoys tennis, golf, and exploring the outdoors with his wife, Kathryn, and daughter, Abigail.

Susan Torrisi has been teaching at SHS since 1998.  She is currently teaching Accounting, Business Principles, Business Management and Economics.  She has her Bachelor’s Degree from Salem State College and her Master’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire University. She lives in Salem and enjoys golfing, biking, and spending time with her three children.

Grade 10-12

This course will provide you with a basic understanding of the structures and operations of business. You will gain an awareness of social and ethical responsibility as it relates to the environment, consumers, employees and investors.
Business ownership, management, marketing, the global economy, money and investments will also be explored.
Prerequisite(s): Application. This course is in the Business Pathway Program.

Grades 10-11

The sales and marketing fields have great opportunity for employment. In this semester-long course, students will take an in-depth look into the marketing of goods and services within the diverse marketing industry. Topics include sports and entertainment, fashion, retail and marketing communication.
Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Business Principles

Grade 11-12

This course provides a rigorous, comprehensive study, of accounting principles. Students who are interested in a career in accounting, financial management, or who intend to major in business in college should consider this course. The course content is equivalent to a first semester college accounting course.

Business Law will increase your understanding of business’ responsibility to know, abide by, and enforce laws and regulations that affect business operations and transactions. Students will work with case studies to learn how business and personal law affect organizations and individuals. Topics discussed include: constitutional law for business and on- line commerce, torts and privacy, business and cyber-crimes, ethics and social responsibility, and contracts and warranties.
Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Business Principles.

Grade 11-12

In Business Management, you will be introduced to the principles and techniques underlying the successful management of business organizations. Topics you will learn include: supply and demand, market structure, entrepreneurship, leadership, motivational techniques, ethics and social responsibility, management styles, and the functions of management. You will analyze basic management activities and apply knowledge to complete a business plan for a company of your own creation.
